I went to msconfig, services tab, and disabled Dell Data Vault. Restarted.
So far, so good. Before you do the same thing, please note that I am not a computer wiz. Having no clue as to how to get to msconfig, I had to use the search feature to figure out where it was. Hope that this action will not come back to bite me!
I thought it might be heat related, but the first thing I did today after start up was play a youtube video. Screen stalled within 20 seconds, audio continued just fine.
This problems started around 2/11/15, around the time Dell Data Vault Service was apparently installed.
Testing via Dell support shows all systems are in good shape. My Dell extended warranty expires on 3/18, so my thoughts went to "conspiracy?" to influence my decision about renewing the warranty.
I have an XPS 15z. There was some sort of update on 2/11/15 and 2/12/15 that Dell sent out that did me in. By deleting anything Dell Data that was put on at that time fixed it. I also turned off NET Guard from McAffe in my Firewall settings. Another article said that would also help as it runs in the background when using anything at a site you are streaming and uses system resources.
